Danson ThandakAssociate Organizations Desert Resource Center, Urmul Setu, Lunkaransar and Urmulu Frontier, BajjuThe project started in September 2020COVID-19 has resulted in school closures around the world and UNICEF reports that the impact on children of all ages in all countries can be lifelong. Globally, more than 1.2 billion children were out of the classroom. As a result, education has changed dramatically, with the distinct rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is conducted remotely and on digital platforms. In light of this, we conducted surveys and discussed with community members about the prevalence and availability of smartphones and the Internet in different settlements in western Rajasthan. With the help of the Malala Fund, we developed and introduced the review program after receiving data and comments. We have launched focused interventions to enable technology-facilitated learning and education services for children and integrate them with a formal distance education platform, with a special focus on girls from remote areas of the Thar Desert. The review project has been implemented in 4 districts of western Rajasthan including Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Nagaur. The program worked towards child education, empowerment and bridging the technological gap.We created 700 videos covering curriculum content (for grades 8, 9 & 10), co-curricular activities and career guidance. We found local teachers who are excellent in their fields and who can add a local flavour to the content so that students can relate and feel comfortable. It was very difficult for us to make him comfortable in the studio and front of the camera. However, these ambitious and hardworking teachers miraculously coped with their tasks and created some wonderful content for the kids.Children living in these isolated parts of this vast desert land are cut off from the outside world. Even though the technology is slowly making its way into the villages, some gaps still have to be filled. Students in rural areas are not aware of the many employment options available. We created nearly 210 videos to solve this problem showcasing various professional paths, from the military to business administration, finance and medicine.Along with this, we found a dire need to address the problems keeping women out of school, such as social norms, poverty, menstrual health, hygiene, etc. In light of this, we produced the video titled "Bachchi ki Baat, with the children". "In which we discussed these important problems sensitively and cordially. To run this project smoothly and to develop quality course material, studios were constructed at Urmul Campus Bajju, where the work of recording bidis for digital course material is being done. Along with this, a digital platform has been created to make this digital course material accessible to the children, in which the work of creating special IDs and information about the children is going on.Workshop:Apart from teaching material, 07 online sessions were organized for children like child rights, child safety, childline, POCSO, good touch bad touch through Komal movie, child labour prohibition day, child marriage etc. in which Bikaner, Girls from Jaisalmer and Jodhpur participated.
